Whenever you're looking at walking vs running it's also wise to think of your past experiences of exercise and what you in fact get pleasure from or loathe about it. If you enjoy pushing yourself to the limit then you might instantly believe that running is the only alternative.
However this is untrue.
You could consider employing level 4 power walking or just quickly walking up a difficult incline on a hill or a running machine. I promise if you walk as fast as you can on the steepest incline you can use that you'll be shattered towards the end of it.
Comparing walking vs running in terms of which is the more effective one for you to use to shed pounds, then I propose that you look at it this way. Many people would run maybe a couple of times each week as a beginner and they'd be grateful to run a maximum of 5 minutes overall. This will burn up approximately 150 - 200 calories from fat.
If they as an alternative went for a day-to-day walk for around 30 minutes at a time they would burn significantly more calories, as much as 1400 each week depending on how fast and what terrain was walked over.
So there are plenty of good reasons to look at before deciding upon walking vs running, it's not necessarily the obvious answer that you think.
