Homemade Glue

To create your own paints, simply mix two cups of cold water and a quarter cup of corn starch inside a saucepan. Then, heat until it boils and attains the consistency of finger paint. Take it off from the heat and permit it to cool. Divide into several small containers with tight fitting lids. Mix food coloring into each jar to make different colors.

Fruity Smelling Play Dough

This fun recipe produces a nice sized batch of play dough that has the scent of fruit. Get a package of unsweetened Kool-Aid, a half cup of salt, and two cups of flour, and mix it all together. Next add two tablespoons of vegetable oil. Now you will include two cups of boiling water, and mix it all up. Take care on this step if your youngster helps. Stir it all together with a spoon until it forms a dough. Be sure to store this play dough inside a container which is air tight. Because this dough smells so delicious, remind your child that he or she shouldn't eat it. If your youngster creates a play dough sculpture they are particularly happy with, take a few pictures of it. Then, placed into picture frames and display as wall art. As long as the play dough is placed in an airtight container, it will last long enough for them to make a wide selection of interesting creations.

Handmade Chalk

You'll be surprised at how easy it is to produce your own personal pretty and colorful chalk. Take a little amount of powdered tempera paint and combine it with one cup of Plaster of Paris. Add to the mix a half of a cup of cold water and stir it up. Next pour this mixture into candy molds, popsicle molds, small Dixie cups, or even a toilet tissue tube which is lined with waxed paper. As soon as the chalk dries you can take it out from the mold. This chalk can be used to design some paper artwork, which can then be showcased in picture frames. The chunky pieces are especially fun when used to make pictures on a driveway or sidewalk.
